Important Information & New Titles for December 2011

Important Information:
The Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library (downtown) will be replacing the carpet throughout the Library the first two weeks in January.  The Library will be open January 3 through January 12 during this process.  While this is going on, there will be times when you will not be able to get to the section of the Library you like.  We will have staff on hand to go to the shelves and retrieve items from these sections.  At this point, the microfilm machines will be unavailable on January 5 and 6.  The dates may change, due to the progress of the carpet replacement.
Both the Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library and the John and Judy Gay Library will be closed on January 13 for Staff Development.  The Roy and Helen Hall Library will remain closed January 13 through January 16 for carpet replacement and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  The John and Judy Gay Library will be open on January 14.

Military Bounty Land

Military Bounty Land 1776 - 1855 by Christine Rose is a detailed account if military bounty land records.  Federal bounty land was offered as an inducement to enlist or remain in the military.  During the Revolutionary War, some states also offered bounty land; these are also covered.  This guidebook explains what records are available, how to locate them, and includes an appendix of the important laws which generated the awards.  Among the finding aids are books, internet resources, and where to obtain copies of the original material.

I'm sorry this one did not get out to you last month - I must have hit the wrong button!  Susan
