Upcoming Area Events

There are lots of Genealogy Events coming this month and next month.  Add these to your calendar!

Friday, October 19 6:00 - 11:00 pm (Pre-event 2:00 - 5:00 pm) at the W. O. Haggard Public Library: 2501 Coit Road in Plano: Genealogy, Local History, Texana, and Archives of Plano Public Library system is pleased to announce that this year’s Lock-in will be held in conjunction with the ‘Lock-in,’ ‘After Dark’ or ‘After Hours’ events at four other libraries across Texas
Programming and genealogical resources will be shared by: Texas State Library and Archives Commission, Special Collection Department of the Denton Public Library, Waco-McLennan County Library Genealogy Division and Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research, Houston Public Library. Saturday, October 20 10:30 am - 12:30 pm at the W. O. Haggard Public Library: 2501 Coit Road in Plano: Join the Genealogy Friends of Plano Libraries for a free Saturday Seminar. Speakers will be Cheryl Smith and Susan Kusterbeck to tell us about the Genealogy Collections at the Haggard Library and the Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library in McKinney. This is a FREE program open to all.

Thursday, November 1 - Saturday, November 3 at the Riley Center in Fort Worth: 4726 Stanley Blvd: The Texas State Genealogical Society will hold its annual Conference. Thursday's activities are FREE. There is a charge for Friday and Saturday seminars. For more information, go to

Saturday, November 3, 8:30 am The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 2700 Roundrock Trail, Plano: The GREAT FAMILY SEARCH CONFERENCE featured speaker is Paul Nauta, Manager, Public Relations, FamilySearch.  The event itself is free, but you have the option of ordering a CD with syllabus (handouts) for $2.00 and/or a box lunch for $9.00.  You must register by Oct 24.  Great Family Search Genealogy Conference Web site: Registration form:
Thursday, November 8 6:45 - 8:30 pm in the Dulaney Room of the Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library 101 East Hunt Street, McKinney: The North Collin County Genealogical Society will be presenting a program by Lynell Moss.  Ms. Moss is from the Latter Day Saints and will be speaking about " Family Search".  This event is FREE and open to all.

Saturday, November 17 9:30 am - 3:00 pm at the Plano Bible Chapel, 1900 Shiloh Rd, Plano The Genealogy Friends of Plano Libraries will be holding a workshop featuring Lloyd D. Bockstruck. Pitfalls in Research, will help the dedicated researcher wade through court orders and court minutes; birth and death substitute records; and understand the naming quagmire. These are out of the ordinary records that are seldom used in research. More information is available at
